Salford Folding Bike Race – 30th August 2008

| |

Folding bike race

The first race took place at the inaugural Smithfield Nocturne in 2007 and saw 40 suited competitors battle it out in front of 5000 cheering spectators around Smithfield Market in central London. The ‘Le Mans’ start meant riders had to run to their bikes and assemble them before setting off around the challenging Smithfield Nocturne course. The competition for commuter glory was intense and the race became one of the highlights of the 2007 event.

The race is now one of the main events in the Nocturne race programme and will be brought to the North West at the Salford Nocturne on 30th August.

The competitors, dressed in business attire will wait 10m away from their folded bikes, at the drop of the British Flag the competitors will have to run to their steeds before building them as fast as they can and setting off on a 4 lap dash.

In true commuter spirit, winner takes all – there’s no second chance when it comes to catching your train… Expect fierce competition, barging and even a little cheating as our commuters race to prove their skills.

The race is open to anyone with a folding bike and is suitable for all ages and abilities. The event is designed to be fun and provide an amazing experience for the competitors who will be cheered on by the thousands of spectators as they race around the Nocturne course.
