Designing for cycling in 2014

| |

It’s the season for cycling, and with #CycleCityExpo it’s also time to release new and revised cycling design documents.

There are three new guides from national organisations Cyclenation, CTC & Sustrans; a revised version of the TfGM cycling design manual; and the long-awaited DfT announcement about new Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions proposed for next year.

CycleNation “Making Space for Cycling” guide produced by Cambridge Cycling Campaign. Website.

CTC “Space for Cycling – a guide for local decision makers“. Info.

Sustrans Design Manual “Handbook for cycle-friendly design“. Info.

TfGM “Greater Manchester Cycling Design Guidance & Standards v2.1“. Website.

Perhaps the most important announcement today is the DfT’s proposals for revised TSRGDs in 2015.
We must ensure these Government regulations are revised so effective solutions for cycling can be provided by our local Councils: DfT consultation on revised Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions (TSRGD) 2015

Update: TfL’s draft london cycling design standards released for consultation in June 2014.
