CycleStreets.net is a route planning system for cyclists by cyclists. It was created by two members of Cambridge Cycling Campaign and covers all of the UK. It is quick and easy to use, with  good visuals. Free Android and iPhone apps are available too.

The Department for Transport (DfT) provides a journey planner where you can choose a quiet, fast or recreational route inputting your starting point and destination. It only covers 18 areas of the UK:  Aylesbury, Blackpool, Bristol, Cambridge, Colchester, Darlington, Derby, Exeter, Lancaster, Greater Leicester, Leighton Buzzard, Greater Manchester, Merseyside, Oxford, Peterborough, Shrewsbury, Stoke-on-Trent and Worcester. Try the find a cycle route tool on the DfT website
